Merchant Center Misrepresentation Suspension: What the Notice Leaves Out
Google’s misrepresentation notice is deliberately non-specific. The published fix list is not: consistent identity, clear policies, working pages. GMC Scout crawls those surfaces on a Shopify storefront.
Shopify stores only. We do not scan WooCommerce, Magento or custom carts. We never connect to Merchant Center or read your product feed.

GMC Scout is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Google alone makes all Merchant Center approval and enforcement decisions. GMC Scout checks 70+ technical, policy and trust signals commonly associated with Google Merchant Center approval, misrepresentation reviews and store-quality assessments.

Why the misrepresentation notice tells you nothing
Google’s Misrepresentation policy treats violations as egregious: accounts can be suspended on detection and without prior warning. Reinstatement is described as compelling circumstances only.
The email does not name the page or the field. That is by design. Incomplete policy pages, unreachable contact paths, inconsistent business identity and dead destinations all feed the same policy — because Google cannot confidently verify the business. Intent to deceive is not required.
What actually triggers a misrepresentation review
Merchant Center Help says Google may review information from your promotion, website, accounts and third-party sources. The live storefront is evidence. A clean product feed on a store that fails the website audit is still a misrepresentation risk.
For Misrepresentation or “Website needs improvement”, Help tells you to audit the website and verify three things:
- Consistent business information — legal business name, physical address, phone number and email match across the website and the Merchant Center account.
- Clear policies — explicit links to shipping, refund and privacy policies.
- Site functionality — fix broken links; checkout is fully functional and secured with HTTPS.
The storefront checklist, then the scan
Publish identity on Contact and in the footer. Use an email on your store domain. Link shipping, refund and privacy from every page — on Shopify those belong under /policies/, not a duplicate /pages/ copy. Fill in cost, timeframe, countries, return window, who pays returns, refund timing. Make every submitted URL resolve.
GMC Scout crawls that list: contact and identity fields, policy pages and the specifics on them, HTTPS, and an HTTP status check on every seeded URL. The free scan returns counts and categories. Unlocking names the issues. We do not claim we found Google’s private reason, and we do not promise reinstatement.
FAQ
Why was I suspended for misrepresentation without warning?
Egregious violations may get no warning. For many other policies Google gives 7 or 28 calendar days. Check the email and Merchant Center — do not assume you have a window.
How many appeals do I get?
Google publishes one courtesy review during a warning period. It does not publish a lifetime cap. We will not invent one. Do not spend a review on a store that still fails the published audit list.
I fixed everything and I am still suspended. What now?
Google’s review typically takes up to 7 business days. A clean feed does not clear a storefront failure, and a clean storefront does not clear an off-site problem (verification, payments, ad history). Re-scan after theme, app or policy changes, then request review once. We cannot see inside Merchant Center.
