Fix Disapproved Products in Google Merchant Center

Disapproved products are recoverable and do not automatically mean a suspension. GMC Scout does not read your feed. Use Merchant Center diagnostics for GTIN, image and attribute errors; use a storefront scan when the landing page is the problem — or when disapprovals start to spread.

Shopify stores only. We do not scan WooCommerce, Magento or custom carts. We never connect to Merchant Center or read your product feed.

Terry Ecom — Google won’t tell you which check failed. These are the checks I teach in GMC Help — I wrote this, so when they change, the scan does too.

GMC Scout is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Google alone makes all Merchant Center approval and enforcement decisions. GMC Scout checks 70+ technical, policy and trust signals commonly associated with Google Merchant Center approval, misrepresentation reviews and store-quality assessments.

Shopify stores only. This does not submit an appeal or change your Google account.

Item-level vs account-level

A disapproval blocks specific products from Shopping surfaces. Other approved products can keep serving. A Merchant Center suspension is the other state: Shopping ads and free listings both stop until Google reinstates the account.

If the account is live and a subset of items is disapproved, you still have a serving account. Fix those destinations and attributes. If disapprovals are spreading across the catalogue, treat it as a storefront problem as well as a feed-row problem — persistent or widespread item issues can escalate.

What we can see, and what only diagnostics can see

Image quality, GTIN validity, missing required feed attributes and restricted product categories are Merchant Center / feed-tool work. GMC Scout does not upload, rewrite or inspect feed rows. Pointing a disapproval query at this page and expecting a GTIN diagnosis would be the wrong tool.

Landing-page rules do require the price, availability and buy path on the page to match the submitted product. Broken product URLs, homepage bounces, missing shipping-cost disclosure and stub policy pages are storefront failures that a crawl can count. That is the job the free scan does.

  • Use Merchant Center diagnostics for the feed attribute on the disapproved row.
  • Use a storefront scan when the destination URL, price shown on the page, or policy/contact surfaces are wrong.
  • A growing disapproval rate is a reason to check both — not a reason to ignore the website audit.

When disapprovals escalate toward a suspension

Persistent or widespread item issues can become an account problem. The expensive resource then flips from “fix this row” to “do not spend a review attempt on a half-fixed store.”

If Shopping ads have already stopped for the whole account, you are no longer in disapproval-only territory. Read the suspension page, scan the storefront, and request review once.

FAQ

How long after a fix until products re-approve?

Correct the product or landing-page data, let the feed re-sync, and wait for that item to be reviewed again. Google does not publish a recrawl clock we can cite. We will not invent one.

Why did one variant get disapproved and not the others?

Disapproval is per item. Variants can differ on GTIN, image, URL, price or availability. Scout will not tell you which feed column failed — that lives in Merchant Center diagnostics. We can tell you whether that variant’s public URL and on-page offer look consistent with a storefront audit.
